Does the treatment require downtime?
Unlike a surgical procedure, Sculptra treatments require no substantial downtime. However, we do provide patients with a few key recommendations following their treatment. Some patients may also have some bruising or swelling at the injection sites, which should fade naturally within a few days. Some patients prefer to take “social” downtime until the swelling fades.
Steps to take after your treatment include:
- Avoid strenuous activity for a couple of days. Too much exertion could interfere with swelling or cause irritation at the injection sites.
- Wait several hours after treatment before applying any makeup.
- Avoid excess sun exposure until swelling and redness fade.
How many Sculptra treatments will I need?
Even one Sculptra session can begin delivering results. However, the product was designed to work best with a regimen of 2 to 3 treatments. We spread these sessions out over a period of a few months. When building your treatment plan at the consultation, Dr. Lee will provide an estimate for the number of sessions that will allow you to achieve your results.When will I see the results?
While Sculptra doesn’t provide instant volume like traditional fillers, it works gradually by stimulating collagen production. Most patients begin to see improvements in as little as 1 month, with optimal results appearing around 3-6 months after treatment. Facial aging can improve over time, with most patients seeing results lasting up to 2 years with a complete treatment regimen. When results begin to fade, patients can easily have a touch-up treatment to help maintain a youthful appearance.
Is Sculptra right for me?
Sculptra is open to a broad range of patients across multiple age groups. It is highly safe, so there are very few medical contraindications for candidates. Still, we take the time to thoroughly discuss your goals and weigh them against available options during the consultation. While patients with more mature skin are often ideal candidates, younger patients can also have this treatment. For younger patients, it can serve as a prejuvenation regimen to prevent rather than reduce signs of aging.
